Human Rights Cell

Human Rights Cell was inaugurated on 29.06.21. It has eighteen members representing each and every department. The inaugural speech was delivered by our respected Principal Dr.(Prof.) Krishna Roy. This was followed by the uploading of the first edition of online Human Rights watch board 'Jagriti' on Bethune College website. 'Jagriti' contains posters, photographs, bio-notes, write-up on various human rights issues contributed by the students. Students from the Department of Botany, Bengali, Computer Science and English contributed to the first edition of the watch board.

Second edition of 'Jagriti'

Second edition of 'Jagriti' was uploaded on college website on 09.10.21. Special emphasis was given on Mahatma Gandhi and his notion of Human Rights. Students of the Departments of Chemistry, Hindi, History, and Philosophy contributed to it.

A special lecture session followed by a poster exhibition was organised on 14.12.2021 to commemorate International Human Rights Day. Dr. Samata Biswas, Department of English, Sanskrit College and University was invited to speak on Dalit Rights.

A lecture on a great early Human Activist, reformist Savitribai Phule has been jointly organised by Human Rights Cell and Ethics and Value Committee on 16/03/22.The speaker was Dr. Piyali Gupta, Assistant Professor, English Department. It is the 2nd Lecture of 30 hours Certificate Course in Ethics and Value Education.
