Bethune College, established in 1879 and the first women's college in Asia, can proudly boast of being the alma mater of some of the most outstanding women in society over the last 143 years, starting with Kadambini Ganguly and Chandramukhi Basu. The institution is a living illustration of the ideals and vision of its founder, John Elliot Drinkwater Bethune, and has remained fully committed to the cause of education and empowerment of women. Young girls, just out of school, learn to strive for excellence in their chosen fields of study. Alongside traditional methods of teaching-learning, new innovations, such as, audio-visual aids and smart classrooms are followed.
The college aims to provide holistic development to its students by encouraging group activities, interactive sessions, participation in intra and inter college events and social welfare activities. The rich legacy of women warriors like Bina Das and Pritilata Wadedar is a continuing source of inspiration for generations of students of this college.
We look forward to the new batches of students becoming part of the Bethune family, keeping alive its best traditions, while perfecting their individual talents, and most importantly, emerging as responsible, compassionate human beings.
To be engaged in academic pursuit till the last breath.
